Amit Island is located just north of Airlie Beach and just off the Queensland coast.

Airlie Beach has a fantastic beach and has sheltered anchorage for the yachtsman. In 1866 the Island was named Amit Island it was also know as Wedge Island because of its shape, The official name Amit Island was adopted it was named after Sub Lieutenant Robert Armit, he was a crewman on the HMS Salamander, who surveyed this area.

The only recorded inhabitant of the island was T. Heron around the 1890s, it was thought he leased the islands where he lived and worked.
