Hinchinbrook Island is actually two large islands. These islands are connected by an isthmus with a sandy beach and a series of cannels. It is the largest island National Park in Australia.

While an enjoyable holiday destination, Hinchinbrook Island is not for those who long to jetski and parasail. Instead, it is best for people who want to relax in the rainforest or on the beach. There is no automobile access on the island; guests must explore on foot.

Exploration will allow guests to see all that this untouched natural land has to offer. Hinchinbrook Island is home to herons, sea turtles, and dugongs. Guests will enjoy experiencing seeing these and other animals.

While children are welcome, guests should understand that the intent of this island and its accommodations are an escape from the “real” world. They do not offer any kids club activities or babysitting services. Parents should come prepared to have children accompany them on their island adventures.

 

 

 

While visitor access is limited in number, the island provides a relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature. There are a number of bushwalking tours which are self-guided. Information can be obtained about trails and giving detailed information on the island. These information packets can help guests plan time and provisions accordingly.

One of the most popular trails is the Thorsborne Trail. It is 32 kilometers long and stretches the entire length Hinchinbrook Island. This trip generally takes hikers approximately 4 days. Therefore, guests will need to take all provisions as there are no facilities on the trail.

Hinchinbrook Island does not have the fast paced water activities that other Australian islands do. Instead guests can enjoy the nature through walking the trails and simply spending time on the beaches. It is a relaxed atmosphere rather than an exciting vacation destination.

There are some non motorized water activities available. Guests of the resort can enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, and other such activities. There are also cruises around the island and to view the surrounding coral reefs.

Fishing is also a popular pastime on Hinchinbrook Island. There are a number of allowable sites on the island. In addition, the park also has a variety of great spots.
