Orpheus Island offers guests a chance to see a large variety of wildlife. The birds are especially interesting. Wildlife includes snakes, echidnas, orange-footed scrubfowl, friar birds, reef herons ospreys, kites, egrets, and yellow-bellied sunbirds.

There are a number of reefs surrounding the island. Some are zoned for limited fishing but others are zoned “look but don’t touch.” Rules are enforced to protect the coral from damage by visitors.

The resort on Orpheus Island is a perfect getaway to just relax. It is a tranquil paradise with no television or telephones. They offer a number of honeymoon packages and cater to couples. Due to the nature of the resort, they do not offer any facilities or activities for children.

Orpheus Island has 31 private rooms; these rooms include 8 beachfront terraces, 15 beachfront studios, 2 beachfront bungalows, and 6 Mediterranean villas. All rooms have a wonderful beachfront view. Rooms are also surrounded by tropical gardens and have a view of the Coral Sea.

The Orpheus Island Resort Restaurant – Each day features a new menu filled with meals based on seafood and exotic cuisine. Guests can enjoy lunch in the open courtyard and view the beach while dining. All means are included in resort pricing. There are also gourmet picnic lunches available for dining on a private beach.

Snorkeling tours – Guests can take a 2 ½ hour Interpretive Reef Adventure or a 1 hour Twilight Pier Adventure.

Fishing tours – Visitors will enjoy reef fishing trips with a qualified crew.

All activities at Orpheus Island Resort are optional. Guests can choose to simply enjoy the beaches and walks on their own. However, there are many activities that can be chosen, if desired.

Activities are many on Orpheus Island. Included in resort pricing is bush walking, a heated spa and 2 pools, motorized dinghies, glass bottom boat tours, canoes, catamarans, snorkeling equipment and lessons, fishing equipment, and other daily activities and tours.

For a reasonable fee, guests can also enjoy a diving program, snorkeling adventures, and fishing charters.

Guests can enjoy a variety of facilities and amenities on Orpheus Island. They offer a bar, boutique, game room, heated spa, internet and lounge area, and recreation room. They will also provide beach hammocks, swimming pools, tennis courts, and a water sports center.

In addition, there are conference facilities available as well. They will book small groups or the entire resort for up to 42 guests. Meetings can be held in the lounge area.

Visitors will need to get to either Cairns or Townsville on the mainland. From Cairns, guests will take a one hour seaplane flight to Orpheus Island. From Townsville, a 30 minute seaplane flight is available.
